As I sat in a library chair,
on Sunday afternoon,
I couldn’t help but notice, God,
the shelved books in the room.

Each with a cover like the next,
looking just like siblings.
And then on the inside,
similarities keep tripling!

I’m not judging by the cover;
who do you think I am?
But the inked words that rest inside
stink worse than a dead ram.

Weak girls falling in love with boys;
a million Bella Swans
announcing their true, true, true love.
It evokes quite some yawns!

These girls lack character and depth,
and self-preservation.
They let their heroes take control.
We cringe with frustration.

What do the authors want to teach?
Your boyfriend is your life?
They’re more important than family?
They can save you from strife?

If your boyfriend leaves, sulk for months.
If he comes back, kiss him.
Dad doesn’t like Edward?
Rip him from limb to limb!

It truly is terrifying,
what our girl heroes do:
risking their necks for a stranger,
or marrying too soon!

And these are the chilling dangers,
of teenage romance books:
bad role models and life lessons.
So take a second look.
